Experience Tutor June 2009 to Present Independent - Irvine, CA Tutor June 2009 to Fed 2010 Ms. Apple Tutor School - Monterey Park, CA My tutoring sessions include not only the current lesson, but also study skills, time management skills, and self-motivation. I think that a tutoring session should not only consist of learning a given subject, but learning how to learn the given. When tutoring, I try to find out why my student is struggling so I can resolve the source of the problem rather than an effect. I will do everything in my power to help my student understand the material, how the material came to be in the first place, and how to understand it on his or her own. For example, a lesson in Chemistry, I would include learning how to properly use the Index, Glossary, and Table of Contents. Learning how to quickly scan the material for valuable information is also important. In order to learn how to make a free-body diagram, I would guide my student to an example in the appropriate chapter and walk through it with him or her. I would then switch our roles so that they would have the opportunity to "teach me” how to do it, as teaching is the best way to learn.
