Experience: I have tutored students in 6th grade algebra, 11th grade Environmental Science and English. I have also instructed college students in biology laboratories in addition to having individual office hours during which essentially tutoring aid was given. My math, english, and science knowledge is broad and I can teach students to be resourceful, disciplined, but most importantly how to adapt to their many different learning styles.

Hobbies

I love music so I play many string instruments and love to sing. I am also not one for staying indoors all the time, so I very much enjoy hiking, playing sports at the beach (volleyball and ultimate frisbee... or even a game of catch or softball), and I frequent parks with friends and loved ones every week. I also am involved in husbandry work at the Aquarium of the Pacific as a volunteer, where I aid resident aviculturists in taking care of the magellanic penguins. I have been an education volunteer there for the past 3 years as well, where I often enjoy talking to our visitors about all the cool animals and features of the ocean that most people never think of! Teaching in informal settings like that really inspire me to try to show kids and adults alike that knowledge is super empowering. Teaching philosophy: You don't have to be a rocket scientist to appreciate how awesome rockets are. You don't have to know what the specific organs in a snake are to be curious and mystified by them. And you don't need to be a deep-sea diver to appreciate the beauty and wonderment that lies in a kelp forest or coral reef. All you need is your mind, your curiosity, and the desire to learn more. I strongly believe in a mixture of diligent studying and hands on activities to really create concrete learning experiences for kids, teens, and adults alike.
